Women's Work: Arts at the Women's Building
Women's Work is a program of the Women's Building, Inc. Its mission
is to promote and affirm the creative talents and technical abilities of
women in the arts. The underlying goal is to encourage the growth,
knowledge, and empowerment of women in all aspects of their lives by
offering art workshops, exhibits, and cultural events.
Women's Work: Arts At The Women's Building endeavors to display the diversity
of the women's community in respect to race, age, physical ability, and
sexual orientation and works to reflect this diversity in all levels of
program participation. The Women's Building is owned and operated
by Holding Our Own Women's Foundation.
Call for Submissions
Women’sWork: Arts at the Women’s
Building
is calling for art
submissions for our
Women’sWork
wants you—local women artists—to have your say.
Do you want to speak
out against the ongoing American military presence around the world? Are
you concerned about the damage we are doing to our environment? Do you
want to speak out against torture? What is the issue or issues that
concern you? Speak your truth through images.
What do you want to
say? Who needs to hear you
and why? Make it into a visual postcard “message” that can be “sent”.

Individual
pieces of art can be no bigger than 5”x7” but may be part of a
series and hung as a triptych, mosaic style, or some other
combination.

Individual works
of art cannot have a sale price of higher than $35.

All work will be
pinned or taped for display.

Digital
submissions are preferred and can be emailed to
arts@thewomensbuilding.org.
If digital images are not available, please call to arrange
delivery. Original work can be dropped off to The Women’s Building
at

Please include
an artist’s statement with your artwork; there is no limit to the
number of pieces you may submit. The artist statement should be
formatted to fit on the reverse side of a “postcard” no larger than
5”x7”.

Accepted work
will be exhibited at the Women’s Building as part of the Albany
First Friday circuit on
Friday, June 6th

Artwork will be entered into a viewer judged contest for “Best of
Show”. The winning artist
will be awarded a solo art show at The Women’s Building and a gift
certificate to an art supply store.

Do you want to be part of the next show? You don’t have to be an
artist to make another exciting show happen. We need your skills
and your passion for art and social change. We need creative
people to help install art, think through the theme, promote the
show, write press releases, take photos, clean windows, sign in and
greet people—whatever your talent, you can put it to use here while
meeting lots of interesting and fun people.
